Elastomers are used in applications such as gaskets, seals and O-rings, which are integral components for gas or liquid confinement in devices and equipment. They compensate for irregularities of mating surfaces, which would leak without them, and are used in static and dynamic conditions.
Elastomeric parts have a tendency to stick due to inherent properties. Stickiness causes increased friction coefficients, tends to accumulate dirt and is difficult to clean. Because of its inherent stickiness, materials such as liquid silicone elastomers have limited applications.
Our unique process modifies surface properties of elastomers of all sizes and shapes to reduce friction and increase durability, without affecting bulk material properties. The technology modifies the outer surfaces of the article leading to a drop in the coefficient of friction. In addition, by creating a permanent chemical modification to the surface, the technology improves barrier to chemicals, reduces swelling and fouling, and ultimately prolongs service life.
